太古研究生奖学金项目之有关说明
(经济学硕士)
A. 规章
太古(香港)有限公司现设立该项在香港大学研读的研究生奖学金项目,该奖学金项目有以下规定:
1、命名为太古研究生奖学金项目,每年颁授一次,每次名额一位。
2、每期奖学金为时一年,其费用包括了学者的学费,住宿费和每月的生活津贴。在奖学金发放期间还将为学者提供住宿,并且在奖学金项目开始和结束时为该学者提供往返香港的经济舱机票。
3、希望学者在香港大学完成他(她)的学业后即返回大陆。
4、奖学金授予在中国出生和受教育的中国公民,并在每年的九月即奖学金项目实施时(注:本期为2008年9月)未满30岁的男性或女性。本奖学金主要提供给经济学专业的,并希望能够在此领域继续深造的毕业生。
5、申请者所需条件:(1)必须具有下述国内六所大学中的经济学学士学位(注:复旦大学、南京大学、北京大学、清华大学、永利集团3044官网欢迎您以及西安交通大学)。(2)已参加GRE考试,且数学成绩在最好的3%之列。(3)申请者的英语水平必须达到托福测试600分或同等雅思考试成绩,并且是在申请前两年之内取得的。
6、申请需提交自荐信一封,阐明其学术背景及说明其对此项目的兴趣所在,同时应该也要提交研究计划书一份。
7、候选人须通过香港大学的批准,如果获准研读研究生学位,将成为该校的研究生。学者不可同时申请注册其他项目。
8、若无适当候选人,将不会颁发该年度奖学金。
B. 管理安排
1、2008年度奖学金现已接受申请。
2、申请资料必须于2007年12月28日之前,通过教育部港澳台办,送交至太古(香港)有限公司北京代表处。
3、申请材料须提交中文、英文双文体,申请者将会被要求参加一次笔试,作为学习或研究能力的根据。(注:具体考试时间将另行通知。)
4、奖学金由遴选委员会授予,其成员由太古(香港)有限公司任命,委员包括一名香港大学指定的代表。候选人须经香港大学及候选人所申请修读的相关学系录取。
5、每期奖学金项目正式开始日期(即:注册日期)为每年度的九月初。建议安排获得奖学金的学者提前一个星期来港入住香港大学内。

A. REGULATIONS
A scholarship for graduate students tenable atUniversityofHong Kong,Hong Kong, has been established by John Swire & Sons(H.K.)Ltd. The following regulations will apply to this scholarship:
1. The scholarship will be known as the HKU-PRC Swire Postgraduate Scholarship, and will be awarded annually for one graduate student.
2. The scholarship will be tenable for one year, covering the full cost of the scholar’s university fee, hall fee and monthly stipends. Lodging will be provided on campus at theUniversityofHong Kongduring the tenure of the scholarship. Free economy class air passages to and fromHong Kongare provided to the scholar at the beginning and end of the period of tenure.
3. A scholar is expected to return toChinaon completion of his/her studies at HKU.
4. The scholarship will be awarded to a male or female of Chinese nationality who was born and educated in the People’s Republic of China, and normally will not have attained the age of 30 by the time the scholarship commences in September each year. The Master course is intended primarily for those who have studied economics at undergraduate level and who are seeking to deepen their professional knowledge of this subject.
5. Applicants must: (i) hold a good first degree in Economics from one of the following six universities: Fudan, Nanjing, Peking, Tsinghua, Xiamen and Xian; (ii) have taken the GRE and achieved a score ranking within the top 3%in the quantitative element; (iii) meet the English language requirement of a TOEFL score of 600 or IELTS equivalent, obtained not more than two years before the application.
6. Applications should have a covering letter outlining their academic background, explaining their interest in the programme and should also include an academic proposal.
7. The successful candidate will be put forward for admission to theUniversityofHong Kongand, if accepted to read for a postgraduate degree, will become a postgraduate student of the University. Students may not be concurrently registered any where else for another degree.
8. If no candidate is judged to be of sufficient merit, no award will be made.
B. ADMINISTRATIVE ARRANGEMENTS
Applications are now invited for the scholarship to be awarded in the academic year 2008.
Applications should be submitted by 28 December 2007 to John Swire & Sons (China) Ltd.-Beijing Office, via the PRC State Education Commission.
All short listed candidates will be asked to submit written work in English and take a written English test to demonstrate their ability to undertake courses and present a dissertation in English.
The scholarship will be awarded by a Selection Committee whose members will be appointed by John Swire & Sons (HK) Ltd. The committee will include a representative nominated by theUniversityofHong Kong. The candidate nominated for postgraduate studies will be subject to acceptance ty theUniversityofHong Kongand by the relevant faculty of the University for the Particular Course for which he/she has applied.
Awards are normally tenable from September of each year, and scholars are advised to take up residence at HKU a week before the academic year start.
